The Importance of Turkish Dolomite In Interior Architecture

Updated: Oct 17, 2023

Turkish dolomite is an exclusive and prestigious white natural stone that is more durable than classical marbles, has no crystals and has a solid structure, and is timeless in aesthetic architecture. This unique dolomite, mined from the Marmara Island in Turkey, has been known since ancient times and has been widely used in architecture for centuries. Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman used this dolomite stone from the Marmara region widely in churches, stadiums and ancient libraries.

Turkish Dolomite

Turkish dolomite is a soft stone and aesthetically pure white in color. Its non-crystalline structure means it has a soft, milky background. Due to the soft tone the base color remains the same, which is one reason for its popularity among architects. It is frequently preferred especially in flooring and wall covering projects. It is also the most preferred dolomite in mosaic making. Unlike other natural stones used, it is a unique and elegant stone that has no shine but shows its color at the best level.

Turkish Dolomite

Turkish dolomite is mainly sent to the United States, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates. It is generally exported as tiles and mosaics. Although its original name is Marmara Dolomite, it is called Bianco Dolomite or Milk White by architects and interior designers. Apart from this unique white dolomite, there are also red, orange and grey dolomite varieties such as Rosso Venato, Calacatta Dolomite.
